Veteran Horse Society Dressage Round Up MAY 2017
The Veteran Horse Society offers both unaffiliated and affiliated dressage for those people with horses over the age of 15. The unaffiliated dressage runs at our Open Championship Show, this year being held at Arena UK, and the affiliated dressage runs in association with British Dressage with the Championship being held at Vale View Equestrian Centre 12th-15th October 2017.
At Arena UK classes range from Intro to Medium and include the extravagant and entertaining class of Strictly Come Dressage, held in the evening performance on the Friday, last year entries for this class ranged from Jungle Book, to a Native Indian to Gladiator and it is always a fun class to watch.
From the activity on our Facebook pages there are many combinations out there achieving qualifying scores for the Veteran Horse and Rider Championships run by British Dressage, combinations require 3 scores of 60% of higher to qualify for the finals, horses must be at least associate members of BD and riders must be a paid member of BD to qualify, i.e. TeamQuest/MyQuest members but must be Full Members to compete at the finals. For the full rules please see the dressage page on the Veteran Horse Society website
We love to hear about your veterans and their antics, but one qualifying story has particularly struck a chord. Helen Griffith told me of her horse Galway Foxy, a little horse at only 14.2 but he is certainly Helen’s whole life. Foxy is her second horse, bought as a confidence giver after a nasty accident with her previous horse, he has certainly proved himself in the world of dressage, in his first affiliated test he scored 64.7% to come second in Novice 23. As well as this he has competed at 4 Trailblazer National Championships, MyQuest Regionals at both Novice and Elementary and claimed Reserve Champion at both Prelim and Novice at the UK Riders National Championships.
Helen says of Foxy, “I believe you only get one chance in life and have to make the most of it whatever life throws at you. Foxy is a superstar a horse in a million I will never have another horse after him as it is physically such a struggle, so I am determined to do as much as we can together and to enjoy every minute”
Jackie Banks and her mare Bizzie B competed at the finals last year, riding the prelim side saddle to gain 3rd place and the novice astride for 5th place, passing the time between her tests by watching Despicable Me!!
Also pictured is Fleurs Flight, aka Gilbert, competing in the unaffiliated dressage at Bury Farm at last year’s show with Beth Proctor
Danni has also sent us a photo of her 20 year old horse, 18 months ago he was destined for meat but Danni has turned him around to now be competing at Advanced Medium level
Membership for dressage will close earlier this year, on the 20th September 2017, as the team is extremely busy for the next month with Championship Shows.
From all of us at the VHS, we wish all our members a happy and successful season with their equine partners
